“World’s most expensive wine” included in Golden Globes $1m gift bag
8th January 2025
The famously extravagant goody bag includes a $272,000 wine tasting and dinner, or a trio of ultra-rare vintages.
This year’s Golden Globes goody bag featured a trio of ultra-rare Liber Pater vintages (2015, 2018 and 2019), plus a $272,000 (£217,000) wine tasting and dinner experience in Bordeaux.
Each gift was available to one participant only and formed part of the luxurious Golden Globes goody bag for winners and presenters.
The Liber Pater 2015 was dubbed the world’s most expensive wine when it was released in 2019, with a price tag of around $34,000 (£27,000) a bottle. Only 550 bottles were made, of which just 240 were sold or reserved prior to release.
It’s made entirely from ungrafted wines and comprises rare grape varieties that were once commonly used in Bordeaux, such as Petite Vidure, Castets, Tarnay and Saint Macaire – alongside the more well-known Malbec and Petit Verdot, according to Decanter.
The Liber Pater 2018 vintage followed in 2022, also with a price tag of £30,000 a bottle, and the 2019 vintage is around £600/bottle.
The Liber Pater vineyard, in the Landiras commune of Graves, southwestern France, produced no wine in 2008, 2012 or 2013 – nor was there a 2016 or 2017 vintage due to vandalism of the vines and frost damage respectively.
