Fruit growers can access Niab annual review

The Niab Fruit Annual Review 2025 has been published, providing a summary of the latest research results produced by the UK organisation on its portfolio of fruit projects.
This annual publication, now freely available to view on Niab’s website, provides a comprehensive overview of current fruit research, including short summaries of the outcomes and findings.
It also covers information on the legacies delivered by the WET Centre and Plum Demonstration Centre and the latest funded research from Niab’s research vineyard and wine innovation centre.
The Niab team said that readers can learn about the ongoing genetic research supporting fruit breeding programmes and variety development.
A vast array of project summaries on Niab’s research into pest and pathogen ecology are included, incorporating the latest findings on the management and control of apple canker, apple replant disease, apple scab, cherry canker, apple and pear pests, spotted wing drosophila, large raspberry aphid, and Mucor and Rhizopus in strawberry.
‘Keeping industry abreast of project progress and new innovations’
Results of research into precision orchard management, raspberry propagation, coir recycling and farm ecosystem management are also included, and it finishes with a summary of how the Growing Kent & Medway programme has been supporting the food, drink and horticulture sector.
Commenting on the publication Niab’s knowledge exchange manager Scott Raffle explained that there are a great many projects being funded at Niab’s East Malling site encompassing a wide range of fruit research topics.
“The industry is not always fully aware of our breadth of expertise or the useful results that growers could be tapping into, and this annual publication helps to raise the profile of our work in short summary reports which are quick and easy to read.
“By producing this review annually, it helps to keep the industry abreast of project progress and new innovations as they occur.”
Paper copies of the Niab Fruit Annual Review 2025 will be available to collect at fruit events involving Niab over the coming year, with an electronic version available to view here.
