Aldi removes protective sleeves from its wines
15th March 2025
Aldi announced that the store will remove the protective sleeves from the corks of its own-label wines.

The move follows a successful trial that has been taking place since March 2024. The new packaging will now be rolled out to all of Aldi’s own labelled corked wines by the end of 2025.
Aldi said that the supermarket aims at eliminating an estimated 38 tonnes of unnecessary packaging each year, with the removal of the sleeve made from aluminium and plastic.
Luke Emery, national sustainability director at Aldi UK, told the media: “We know that sustainability is a priority for our customers, and we’re always looking for new ways to reduce packaging and offer more sustainable choices.
“Launching wines with naked corks is a step in the right direction, and we’re proud to be the first supermarket to introduce this change across our entire range of own-brand quality corked wines.”
The change is set to apply to 46 of Aldi’s wine lines, including products such as Côtes du Rhone, Rioja Reserva and Atlantique Rosé.
