BAPL reflects on challenges and opportunities in 2024

The British Apples & Pear Growers Association has reflected on the challenges and achievements of the past year for the industry.

BAPL said that the end of 2024 brought some difficult news with the latest Budget announcements, however, last year was also full of highs.

“Supermarket support for British apples and pears has grown, with long-term contracts providing much-needed stability, and consumer demand has remained steadfast—your support means everything to our growers,” the association added.

“Despite the weather challenges, the harvest was strong, a testament to the hard work and resilience of our growers and their teams.

“Our ambition to see British apples make up 60% of the apples sold in UK supermarkets by 2035 remains at the heart of everything we do.

“Right now, it might feel like an even bigger challenge, but we believe in the future of British apples and pears, and we’re committed to building towards that goal.

“Here’s to a productive and hopeful 2025—thank you for being part of our journey. Together, we can continue to grow this great British industry,” a spokesperson for BAPL concluded.
