Italian fruit breeder launches two new Gala clones

Italian fruit breeder Consorzio Italiano Vivaisti (CIV) has announced the launch of two new clones of Gala that develop colour earlier than others.

The first one, called T-Rex/CIVT15, forms earlier colouring than other Gala clones, even in lowland areas where this is more difficult to achieve.

It also shows “excellent uniformity” in both ripening and size and produces larger fruit of a conical shape.

The apple stands out with its intense dark reddish colour on the whole fruit.

The skin is crunchy, sweet, juicy and aromatic. The colour on the fruit appears earlier as compared to other Gala clones present on the market.

T-Rex/CIVT15 trees possess good vigour, good ramification capacity, and yields stand out with their high productivity.

Uniform red colour

The second Gala clone, called Tigergala/CIVS15, develops “intense striping” earlier than other varieties.

CIV’s commercial director Federico Stanzani said that interest in Gala T-Rex is growing among growers due to its distinctive characteristics, the uniform red colour over the entire surface and the large size.

He added that the apples catch the attention of consumers and buyers on the shelf.

T-Rex and Tigergala are both exclusive varieties and are only available from CIV member nurseries: Mazzoni Vivai, Tagliani Vivai and Salvi Vivai.
