The brewery based in Bourton-on-the-Water was also praised for its other types of beer.

Hawkstone pilsner won a silver award, while its session lager and spa low-alcohol lager both took home bronze awards.

The World Beer Awards are judged in 10 categories, which included best wheat beer, stout and porter, speciality beer, sour and wild beer, pale beer, no and low alcohol beer. Lager, IPA, flavoured beer and dark beer.

Fastest-growing businesses

Clarkson’s brewery was also named one of the fastest-growing businesses in the UK.

Hawkstone was recently named Britain’s 24th largest private company in a Sunday Times’ survey.

Mr Clarkson said: “It is good news for other farmers, really: we’re buying barley from them because our barley harvest was shocking.

“The one farm in Britain that doesn’t need any help, really, is Diddly Squat, as it is obviously funded through other means.

“So, it is lovely to think we can build up a brand that isn’t using Italian barley, or German barley, or Spanish barley, where farmers can benefit from selling their produce to us.

“We’d love to talk to anyone who is growing hops in this country. If we could get hops that are suitable, it would be absolutely brilliant.”

Farmers’ support service

Mr Clarkson has recently launched a support service for farmers struggling with their mental health.

He recently published on Hawkstone’s social media: “We know that farming can be a struggle, especially during harvest.

“At Hawkstone, we’re proud to back British farmers, and that means looking after their wellbeing too. So, we’ve teamed up with @giveusashoutinsta, a 24/7 text support service, to give farmers someone to talk to, no matter what they’re going through.

“If you’re a farmer who’s finding it a bit tough, text HAWKSTONE to 85258 for free, confidential support with stress or worry.

“Knowing when to ask for support is better than suffering in silence.”
