The prize, allocated by the International Taste Institute, awarded the company’s strawberry Fandango and raspberry Amalia Rossa.

The judging panel, composed of more than 200 professional taste experts, focused on fruits’ flavour, appearance, texture, and aroma.

The award also recognised the work and partnerships of TSBC in selecting to grow and market two of the best varieties in the berry sector.

The judges said that the prizes awarded reflect the company’s commitment to high quality, precision farming and sustainable practices.

Commitment to excellence

Fandango is a top-tier strawberry variety created by Fresh Forward, an expert breeder based in the Netherlands, while Amalia Rossa is a premium raspberry variety created by the experienced Italian breeder BerryTech.

The Summer Berry Company holds the exclusive rights to sell Amalia Rossa grown in Portugal to British and Irish retailers.

With an annual production of more than 1500 tonnes, TSBC also sells Amalia Rossa grown in Portugal to European markets and the Middle East.

Joe de Ruse, genetics director at TSBC, said: “This is a great result for all TSBC team, for our commitment to excellence and for creating valuable partnerships with top breeders, aiming to provide more exciting options to consumers.”
