UK soft fruit industry celebrates National Strawberry Day
27th February 2025
Greenhouse control system expert Tomtech is celebrating National Strawberry Day by highlighting the support that environmental control systems can provide to soft fruit growers across the UK.

National Strawberry Day honours strawberries and their fresh, fruity flavours, making them a perfect choice for a healthy snack. Even though strawberries are traditionally associated with summer, their day is celebrated in winter.
With strawberries and soft fruits needing demanding environments to grow, including ample warmth and sunlight, greater control over growing conditions is essential for UK growers looking to cultivate strawberries all year-round.
Krzysztof Hernik, managing director at Tomtech, said: “At Tomtech, we’re celebrating National Strawberry Day! Despite the UK’s cold, wet and dark winters, climate sensitive fruit like strawberries can still be grown to their full potential.
“By leveraging greenhouses reinforced with environmental control systems to ensure optimal environmental conditions, our store shelves can be kept fully stocked with homegrown strawberries and other soft fruits.”
Right balance of temperature, humidity, and light
Tomtech highlights the benefits of greenhouse control systems, such as the Tomtech T100, in giving greenhouse growers the tools needed to create, monitor and maintain the perfect environment within their greenhouse.
With better insights and control on greenhouse conditions, commercial growers have eliminated environmental guesswork and have made optimal adjustments to encourage a better environment for thriving crops.
Mr Hernik added: “Strawberries thrive when they have the right balance of temperature, humidity, and light in a greenhouse. Our technology helps growers replicate the best possible conditions for these summer fruits, ensuring high yields and premium-quality strawberries, regardless of the season.”
For almost 40 years, Tomtech has been a UK-leading provider of commercial greenhouse monitoring and control systems. Its adaptive control systems are used to monitor temperature, humidity, light, carbon dioxide, pH, nutrients and more.
The company explained that Tomtech’s products are widely used to optimise growing conditions for various crops grown within greenhouses across the UK, Europe and further afield.
“When utilising a greenhouse structure managed by a Tomtech system, even the most temperature-sensitive crops can be grown on UK grounds. We aim to continue supporting greenhouse growers across the nation with better environmental control, ensuring we maintain a steady supply of fruit and vegetables all year round,” Mr Hernik concluded.
