What trends are going to shape wine industry in 2025?
15th January 2025
Wine supplier Ewga Wines has reflected on the challenges and successes of 2024 and shared a list of key trends that are set to shape the wine industry in 2025.
The Ewga’s team said that the wine industry, like many others, has faced a unique set of circumstances last year, but the company hopes that 2025 will bring new opportunities for UK businesses.
A spokesperson for the firm said: “The 2024 wine-growing season across Europe was marked by excessive rainfall, significantly depleting harvests in many renowned wine regions.
“For example, France’s wine harvest is forecast to fall as much as 16% compared to the previous year. Despite this, we’re proud to report that we experienced no significant supply disruptions thanks to the strength of our relationships with our wine partners.”
Challenging Budget
Ewga said that its prices remain stable, with the exception of the new government wine duty, which applies differential duty depending on the alcohol level.
Higher alcohol wines will carry heavier duty surcharges commencing 1st February. For example, the duty rate on a 14.5% ABV bottle is rising from £2.67 to £3.21.
“We have worked closely with growers to minimise this impact, and having the unique benefit of our bond we can ensure that duty levels are kept as low as possible,” the company said.
Key trends in 2025
Looking ahead, several key trends are set to shape the wine industry in 2025.
Ewga Wines said that the business is well-positioned to respond to these evolving consumer preferences.
A spokesperson for the company explained: “The demand for approachable wines with a touch of residual sweetness is on the rise. Consumers are seeking wines that are easy to drink yet full of character, making them perfect for both casual and special occasions.
“The upcoming launch of Artizan: Smooth Red is our response to this trend. This modern red wine balances softness with rich flavour, offering an accessible option for wine drinkers. Wines like this align with shifting preferences, meeting the needs of modern wine consumers whilst respecting winemaking traditions.
“More and more consumers are looking for lower-alcohol wines, hence our new Brisa de Verano range of naturally lighter wines with alcohol at a moderate 8%. There is a growing preference for lighter, lower-alcohol wines that appeal to health-conscious consumers seeking balance without compromising on flavour.”
Ewga team added that looking ahead, they are “filled with optimism and gratitude”.
“The challenges of 2024 highlighted the strength of our team, the loyalty of our customers, and the resilience of our partnerships. These relationships have been—and will continue to be—the cornerstone of our success.
“Our vision for the future is clear: to continue innovating, delivering exceptional wines, and providing unmatched support to our customers. With a focus on sustainability, modern wine trends, and service excellence, we are confident that 2025 will be a great year,” the team concluded.
